Window AC / September 10, 2018 / Francoise Salmons.
Why are window air conditioners so loud? Well the reason is simple: because the entire air conditioner - the compressor the condenser and the fans - are all located in one single unit. By contrast with a split ac and a central air conditioner the compressor and condenser are installed outside of your home. That means that in those units the loudest parts arent in your home. With a window unit however the noisiest parts of the unit are inside your home. This can be a minor annoyance. It may mean that you have to turn up the volume on the tv to hear it. But it can also mean sleepless nights if your window air conditioner in your bedroom is deafening.
Air conditioners are old-timers among climatic equipment which provide comfortable conditions for living. The first window air conditioning system was invented in America in 1930s. Such devices became widespread at once due to their simple design low price and rather high power thus making the cooling of individual rooms possible. Buy your conditioner as per the appropriate BTU. It is a measurement of energy abbreviated as BTU which stands for British Thermal Unit. For this purpose you will be required to find the correct BTU of your room. BTU is proportional to the amount of heat a window conditioner will remove from a room.
A wall with simple sheet type siding may be only 6 inches thick whereas a brick or stone wall can be much thicker. So wall air conditioner sleeves have ventilation louvers only in the back to avoid louvers being covered by the wall edges. This limits the amount of ventilation space available in turn limiting how powerful the unit can be. Wall air conditioners generally dont get much over 14000 BTU depending on the brand. So are they interchangeable? This question usually arises when someone needs a lot of cooling power in a room without suitable windows for a window unit.
The ductwork for the distribution of the air is also all ready in place. The ductwork may need some modification to make it work well for air conditioning but the major part of it should be adequate. To use the existing furnace and ductwork a coil will need to be installed at the furnace. An outdoor condenser unit will be installed outside and copper tubing will be used to connect the coil to the outdoor unit. Some electrical wiring will need to be done to power the outdoor unit. Low voltage wiring will be needed to hook the thermostat the furnace and the outdoor unit together so that they can talk to each other. Basically the thermostat will just tell the furnace to run the blower on high speed and the outdoor condenser to start up.
